Sodium Fluoride (Prevident) Side Effects
Possible side effects of sodium fluoride are listed below. Call your doctor if these adverse effects are severe or do not go away in a few days.
- Staining of teeth
Rarely, sodium fluoride can cause more serious adverse effects. Call your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical attention if you develop:
- A salty or soapy taste in your mouth
- Increased saliva production
- Abdominal pain
- Upset stomach
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Skin rash
- Weakness
- Shakiness or tremors
- Convulsions
The above list may not include all the possible side effects of sodium fluoride. Tell your health care professional if your side effects are unusual or severe or if they do not get better over time. You can also report unusual side effects to the Food and Drug Administration at 1-800-FDA-1088.
Sodium fluoride (Prevident) Overdose: In case of an overdose, seek immediate medical attention. Call your doctor or the National Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If a person has trouble breathing, cannot be awakened, is not responding, or has had a seizure, call 911. Overdose symptoms may include burning in the mouth, tongue soreness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive salivation, blood in vomit, stomach cramps, and abdominal pain.
