How To Use Suprep
Suprep is mixed with water and taken by mouth. The Suprep Bowel Prep Kit for adults contains two 6-ounce bottles of liquid medicine and a 16-ounce mixing container. You should take the first bottle in the evening on the day before your colonoscopy and the second bottle in the morning on the day of your colonoscopy.
Pour one 6-ounce bottle of Suprep liquid into the mixing container and add cool drinking water to it. The mixture of Suprep and water in the mixing container should reach the line on the container. Drink all the liquid in the container. Follow this up by drinking two containers of water over the next hour. Repeat this with the second bottle of medicine in your Suprep kit on the morning of your colonoscopy (pour the Suprep solution into the container, add cool water to the medicine and mix, drink all the liquid, and drink two containers of water afterward). Make sure you complete your bowel preparation at least two hours before your scheduled colonoscopy procedure in the doctor’s office.
You can expect to have many bowel movements after you drink the liquid in the container, so make sure you have access to a bathroom.
Read the prescription label and instructions carefully and use Suprep exactly as advised. Do not change the dose or dosing frequency of Suprep unless your doctor tells you to.
Follow your doctor’s instructions on a clear liquid diet on the day before your colonoscopy exam. This means you will need to avoid all solid foods and drink clear liquids such as plain water, tea and coffee without milk, strained fruit juices such as apple juice or orange juice without pulp, clear broths, soft drinks, sports drinks, popsicles, and flavored gelatin. Do not drink milk or other dairy products. Avoid any beverages that are red, blue, or purple in color or flavor. Do not drink alcoholic beverages in the days before your colonoscopy.
Missed dose: Suprep is taken as a split-dose 2-day regimen before a colonoscopy procedure. You need to take both doses to complete the bowel preparation. If you miss a dose, your colonoscopy may need to be postponed for another day.
Storage: Store Suprep at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Keep all medications out of reach of children and pets.
Unused medicine: Throw away any expired or unused Suprep. Do not flush the medicine down the toilet. The best way to dispose of medicines is through your local waste disposal company or a medication take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal.
