How To Use Symbicort

Take Symbicort as directed by your physician and/or pharmacist. This medicine is available as an aerosol for inhalation. You should shake the inhaler for 5 seconds and remove the mouthpiece. Next, breathe out fully, hold the inhaler to your mouth, and close your lips around it. The inhaler should be upright, and the mouthpiece should be pointing toward your throat. Breathe in slowly and deeply and press on the counter at the top of the inhaler to release the medicine. Continue to breathe in, and then hold your breath for 10 seconds or as long as possible. Release the counter before you breathe out and remove the inhaler from your mouth, keeping it upright. Shake the inhaler for 5 seconds and repeat the above steps for the second inhalation. Replace the cover on your inhaler. Rinse your mouth, gargle, and spit out the water (do not swallow).

Follow the directions on your prescription label for the correct Symbicort dosage and frequency. Take your medicine regularly at around the same time every day. Do not take more or less of the medicine or take it more or less frequently than prescribed. 

You should continue using Symbicort even if your asthma is under control. Do not stop Symbicort without talking to your healthcare provider first.

Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose of Symbicort, take the medicine as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the forgotten dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take two doses at the same time to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store Symbicort at controlled room temperature (between 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F)away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Keep all medications out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Throw away any unused Symbicort after the expiration date. Learn more about proper medication disposal.
