Tacrolimus (Protopic) Tips from Pharmacists
Before using tacrolimus ointment, tell your doctor if you have a history of skin cancer.
Do not use the 0.1% strength in children younger than age 16.
Apply a thin layer of the medicine and use the smallest amount necessary to control symptoms of eczema.
Do not place a wrap, bandage, or dressing on the treated skin.
Unless you are treating your hands, wash your hands with soap and water after applying Protopic ointment.
Do not bathe, shower, or swim right away after applying tacrolimus.
Tell your provider if your symptoms do not improve after 6 weeks of treatment with this medication.
Tell your doctor if you develop persistent skin burning, itching, stinging, or soreness in the treated skin.
Avoid unnecessary sun exposure and wear protective clothing when outdoors.
