How To Use Terazosin
Terazosin comes in the form of a capsule to take by mouth once daily at bedtime or twice daily as prescribed. You can take the terazosin capsule with or without food. Try to take your medication at the same time every day.
Read the prescription label and patient information leaflet carefully and take terazosin exactly as prescribed. Do not change the dose, dosage frequency, or stop treatment without talking to your doctor.
Your healthcare provider will start you on a low dose of terazosin and gradually increase the dose. Follow your doctor’s dosing instructions carefully. It may take 4-6 weeks for you to get the full benefits of this drug. Terazosin can control BPH symptoms and high blood pressure, but it will not cure the underlying conditions even with long-term treatment. Continue taking your medication even if your symptoms are controlled. Do not stop treatment without talking to your doctor first.
Missed dose: If you miss a dose of terazosin, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take double or extra doses to make up for a missed dose. If you miss doses several days in a row or stop taking terazosin for long periods, talk to your doctor before restarting treatment. You may need to restart the medicine at a lower dose and slowly increase the dose again.
Storage: Store terazosin at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in its original container, tightly closed. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.
Unused medicine: Unused terazosin should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw terazosin in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to properly discard expired or unneeded terazosin is through your local waste disposal company or a drug take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal.
