Terbinafine Uses

Terbinafine tablets are used to treat infections caused by a type of mold called a dermatophyte which causes onychomycosis (fungal infections of the fingernails and toenails). This medical condition is also called tinea unguium.Terbinafine oral granules are used to treat fungal infections of the scalp.

There may be other uses of terbinafine, such as to treat ringworm and jock itch—your pharmacist or doctor can give you further drug information.

Terbinafine Mechanism of Action

Terbinafine stops the growth of the dermatophyte (mold or fungus), which causes toenail and fingernail infections.

Terbinafine Doses

Terbinafine comes as a 250 mg tablet. The usual dose is one tablet daily. The treatment duration is 6 weeks to treat fungal infections of the fingernails and 12 weeks to treat fungal infections of the toenails.
