  • Timolol is very effective in treating ocular hypertension and elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open angle glaucoma.
  • You only need to apply the eye drops once or twice a day.
  • Timolol is available in combination products such as Combigan (timolol and brimonidine) and Cosopt (timolol and dorzolamide) for convenience. 
  • It is available in a low-cost generic form and will likely be covered by insurance.

  • Timolol ophthalmic solution can cause temporary stinging, burning, and blurred vision.
  • It can take up to 4 weeks for timolol to effectively control eye pressure.
  • This medicine should not be used by people with chronic obstructive lung disease, asthma, other lung problems, uncontrolled heart failure, or second or third-degree heart block.
