Torsemide (Soaanz) Tips from Pharmacists

  • Take your torsemide tablet in the morning or afternoon. Avoid taking it close to bedtime as this may cause nighttime awakenings to urinate.

  • Torsemide can cause lightheadedness, dizziness, and fainting, especially when you first start taking it, as your body adjusts to the medicine. Arise slowly from a sitting or lying position to prevent falls. Tell your healthcare professional if these symptoms continue. Your doctor may lower your torsemide dose.

  • Before starting torsemide, tell your doctor if you have a history of diabetes. This medication can lead to an increase in blood glucose levels. Your doctor may ask you to monitor your blood sugar levels more frequently and adjust your dose if necessary.

  • Taking torsemide can cause dehydration. Tell your doctor without delay if you develop signs and symptoms such as dry mouth, increased thirst, dizziness, unusual tiredness, weakness, lightheadedness, confusion, or muscle pain. Also, tell your doctor if you have vomiting, diarrhea, or inadequate fluid intake, as this can increase your risk of dehydration.
