Tramadol Uses

Tramadol is a prescription opioid pain reliever that is used to relieve moderate to severe pain. The extended-release (long-acting) forms of tramadol are prescribed for patients with chronic ongoing pain.

Tramadol Mechanism of Action

Tramadol HCl works by modulating the pain pathways in the brain and changing the way the central nervous system responds to pain.

Tramadol Doses

Tramadol tablet is available in 50 mg and 100 mg doses. The usual starting dose of tramadol tablets is 25 mg once a day. The dose is slowly increased to 50 mg to 100 mg every 4-6 hours as needed. The starting dose of tramadol extended release is usually 100 mg per day, and it can be slowly increased to 300 mg per day. The maximum dose of tramadol short acting is 400 mg per day and tramadol extended release is 300 mg per day.
