Tretinoin Tips from Pharmacists

  • While you are using tretinoin to treat acne, use a gentle cleanser 2-3 times a day, pat your skin dry, and apply moisturizer. This will help prevent skin irritation and skin dryness.

  • Use just enough tretinoin such that it gets absorbed and disappears after you rub it in gently. If the gel, cream, or lotion doesn’t disappear, you are probably using too much.

  • Avoid getting tretinoin into your mucous membranes such as your eyes, nose, mouth or vagina.

  • Do not be discouraged if new pimples form or your acne worsens in the first few weeks of using tretinoin. This means the medicine is working in the deep layers of your skin.

  • Store Retin-A gel away from heat because it is flammable.
