Tretinoin Side Effects
Possible side effects of tretinoin are listed below. Call your doctor for medical advice if they are severe or do not go away in a few days.
- Warmth or stinging sensations
- Darkening or lightening of the skin
- Redness or scaling
- Increase in pimples or acne sores
- Swelling, crusting or blistering
- Redness, burning, stinging, peeling, dryness and flakiness in the treatment area
Some of the adverse effects of tretinoin are more serious. Call your doctor right away or seek emergency medical attention if you experience:
- Hives, itching (signs of allergic reactions)
- Discomfort or pain in the treatment area
The above list may not include all the potential side effects of tretinoin. Contact your healthcare provider if your side effects are unusual or severe or they do not get better over time. You can also report unusual side effects to the Food and Drug Administration at 1-800-FDA-1088.
Tretinoin Overdose: In case someone swallows tretinoin, call a doctor immediately. You can also call your local poison control center or the national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If someone has lost consciousness, collapsed, or is not breathing, call 911.
