How To Use Trintellix

Trintellix comes as an immediate-release tablet to be taken by mouth with water. You can take this medicine with or without food. Take Trintellix at around the same time every day.

Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and use Trintellix exactly as directed by your healthcare professional. Do not use more or less of this medicine or use it more or less frequently than prescribed by your doctor.

It can take 2-4 weeks to get the full benefits of this medicine. Continue taking Trintellix even if you feel well. Tell your doctor how you feel during Trintellix treatment. Your doctor may adjust your dose of Trintellix based on your response to the medicine and side effects if any. 

If you wish to come off Trintellix, talk to your doctor about reducing the dose gradually. Suddenly stopping Trintellix can lead to withdrawal symptoms and antidepressant drug discontinuation syndrome with symptoms like headache, mood changes, agitation, irritability, confusion, anxiety, sweating, ringing in the ears, tiredness, burning, numbness, and tingling. It is especially important that patients on a therapeutic regimen of 15 mg/day and 20 mg/day be reduced to 10 mg/day for a week before stopping Trintellix treatment.

Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose of Trintellix, take the medicine as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose as scheduled. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store Trintellix at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Keep all medications out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Throw away any expired or unused Trintellix. Do not flush the medicine down the toilet. The best way to dispose of medicines is through your local waste disposal company or a medication take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal.
