How To Use Viibryd

Viibryd comes as a tablet to take by mouth once a day with food. Try to take your medicine at around the same time every day. This will help you remember to take it and maintain steady vilazodone plasma levels.

Read the prescription label carefully and take Viibryd exactly as prescribed. Do not change the dose or dosing frequency without your doctor’s approval. Your doctor will probably start you on a low dose of Viibryd and gradually increase the dose. Dose adjustment will be made after a minimum of 7 days. Ask your doctor if you don’t understand the dosing instructions.

It can take several weeks for you to get the full benefits of Viibryd. Continue taking the medication even if you don’t notice a significant change in your depressive symptoms right away. 

Viibryd is used to treat major depressive disorder symptoms, but it does not cure the condition. If you have intolerable adverse events, do not stop taking Viibryd without talking to your healthcare professional. Discontinuing vilazodone (Viibryd) suddenly can cause withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, headache, fatigue, sweating, agitation, confusion, irritability, sleep problems, anxiety, seizures, pain, burning, or tingling in the hands and feet, and abnormal excitement. Your doctor will tell you how to slowly reduce the dose. Tell your provider if you experience withdrawal effects while coming off Viibryd.

Missed dose: If you miss a dose of Viibryd, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the regular time. Do not take a double dose or extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store Viibryd at room temperature (between 15-30º C or 59-86º F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to heat and humidity. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused medication should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to it. Do not throw Viibryd in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to properly discard expired or unneeded Viibryd is through a drug take-back program or your local waste disposal company. Learn more about proper medication disposal.
