Viibryd Uses

Viibryd is used for the treatment of major depressive disorder. Experts in clinical psychiatry can make a diagnosis of major depressive disorder based on guidelines in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).

There may be other uses of Viibryd. Clinical trials have looked at using this drug for adults with generalized anxiety disorder. Your healthcare professional or pharmacist can give you further Viibryd drug information.

Viibryd Mechanism of Action

Viibryd belongs to a group of drugs called serotonin modulators (these are a combination of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and 5HT1A receptor partial agonists). Serotonin is a neurotransmitter (a natural chemical in the brain) that plays an important role in mood regulation. Viibryd prevents the reuptake of serotonin by brain cells and makes more serotonin available. It helps to regulate mood and create a sense of well-being in people with major depressive disorder.

Viibryd Doses

Viibryd is available as 10 mg, 20 mg, and 40 mg tablets. The usual starting dose is 10 mg once daily for the treatment of major depressive disorder. The maintenance dose typically ranges between 20 mg and 40 mg daily. Healthcare professionals gradually increase the dose at weekly intervals, up to a maximum of 40 mg daily, as needed.
