What are Xanax (alprazolam) side effects?

Common side effects of Xanax are listed below. Call your doctor if these side effects are severe or do not go away after a few days.

  • Drowsiness
  • Fatigue
  • Memory problems
  • Difficulty with balance or coordination
  • Irritability
  • Lightheadedness, dizziness
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Changes in sex drive
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, constipation, change in appetite
  • Joint pain
  • Difficulty urinating

Some of the adverse effects of Xanax can be more serious. Please call your doctor without delay if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Seizures (convulsions)
  • Severe skin rash
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes
  • Confusion
  • Problems with speech
  • Problems with balance or coordination

Xanax Overdose:  In case of a known or suspected overdose of Xanax, call your doctor right away or go to the nearest emergency room. If a person cannot be awakened, has had a seizure, or has trouble breathing, call 911 immediately. Symptoms of Xanax overdose may include drowsiness, confusion, coordination problems, and loss of consciousness.
