Xarelto (rivaroxaban) Tips from Pharmacists

  • Take Xarelto exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Keep all your appointments with your doctor. Although dose adjustments for this medication are less likely compared to anticoagulants like warfarin, your doctor may change your Xarelto dose based on bleeding risk.

  • Make sure you understand how to take Xarelto correctly. The 15 mg and 20 mg tablets of this medicine need to be taken with food to be absorbed fully.

  • Tell your doctor that you are taking Xarelto before any medical or dental procedure. Your doctor may ask you to stop Xarelto around the time of your procedure.

  • Xarelto can increase the risk of bleeding. Be vigilant for any signs of unusual bleeding while taking Xarelto. If you fall and hit your head, call your doctor, especially if you have symptoms like headache or dizziness, which can indicate bleeding in the brain.

  • Ask your doctor what to do if you miss a dose of Xarelto. Taking a double dose of this medicine can increase the risk of bleeding.

  • If you have coronary artery disease or peripheral artery disease, talk to your doctor about taking low-dose aspirin and Xarelto to reduce your risk of blood clots.
