Xarelto (rivaroxaban) Side Effects

Xarelto can cause muscle spasms as a side effect. Tell your doctor if these symptoms are severe or do not go away in a few days.

Xarelto prevents blood from clotting and can lead to an increased bleeding risk (it can take longer for you to stop bleeding after cuts and injuries while you are on this medication). This medicine can cause clinically significant bleeding, including potentially fatal bleeding. Call your doctor right away if you experience any adverse reactions related to an increased risk of bleeding, such as:

  • Bleeding from the gums
  • Nosebleeds
  • Coughing up blood
  • Vomiting blood or material resembling coffee grounds
  • Pink, red, or brown urine
  • Black, tarry stools
  • Severe uterine bleeding or heavy menstrual bleeding
  • Joint pain or swelling
  • Rash, itching, hives
  • Headache
  • Blurred vision
  • Weakness, tiredness
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Arm pain or leg pain
  • Chest pain or tightness
  • Trouble breathing, wheezing
  • Swelling of the face or tongue

The above list may not include all the potential side effects of Xarelto. Contact your healthcare professional without delay if you have any bleeding problems or unusual bleeding while on this medication. You can also report unusual side effects to the Food and Drug Administration at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Xarelto Overdose: In case of a known or suspected overdose, immediately call your healthcare professional or the local poison control center. Signs and symptoms of a Xarelto overdose may include unusual bleeding, blood in urine, dark tarry stools, coughing up blood, or vomiting material that looks like coffee grounds.

NOTE: Xarelto is a prescription medicine that is the property of the respective owners and is intended only for their use. Never share your prescription medication with others or use someone else’s Xarelto.
