Administration:

All of the dosage forms above are administered by mouth. However, azithromycin can also be administered intravenously or intramuscularly in hospital settings.

Therapeutic Uses:

Azithromycin is used to treat certain bacterial infections by stopping the growth of the bacteria. Keep in mind that azithromycin will not work against viruses such as the common cold, flu, and other viral infections. The type of infections that azithromycin can be effective against are listed below:

  • Bronchitis
  • Pneumonia
  • Sexually transmitted infections (chlamydia, gonorrhea)
  • Different types of infections involving the ears, skin, lungs, throat (strep throat and tonsillitis), sinuses, and reproductive organs (urethra and cervix)
