Chlordiazepoxide Drug Class

Chlordiazepoxide (klor-dye-azey-pox-ayde) belongs to a group of drugs called benzodiazepines.

Chlordiazepoxide Age Range

Chlordiazepoxide is approved for use in adults. Pediatric patients can have varied responses to drugs such as chlordiazepoxide that act on the central nervous system. When these medicines are used in children, treatment is started at the lowest dose and increased as needed. Clinical experience with chlordiazepoxide in children younger than 6 years of age is limited and experts in child health do not recommend using it in children below 6. Also, hyperactive aggressive children should be monitored carefully during chlordiazepoxide therapy as they can develop paradoxical reactions such as abnormal excitement and rage.
