Doxepin Drug Class

Doxepin (dok-seh-pin) belongs to a group of antidepressant drugs called tricyclic antidepressants.

Doxepin Age Range

The tricyclic antidepressant doxepin is approved for use in adults over the age of 18 years. Doxepin and other antidepressant medications can lead to worsening symptoms and increased suicide risk in children, teenagers, and young adults with psychiatric disorders. Therefore, antidepressant therapy with doxepin is only prescribed to pediatric patients (children younger than 18 years of age) if the risks justify the clinical need.
