Doxepin Side Effects

Possible side effects of doxepin are listed below. Call your doctor if these side effects are severe or continue after a few days.

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, indigestion, constipation
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Weakness or tiredness
  • Chills
  • Dry mouth
  • Mouth sores
  • Increased pupil size
  • Increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  • Flushing or redness of the skin
  • Taste changes
  • Changes in appetite or weight
  • Frequent urination, urinary retention, or trouble urinating
  • Excessive thirst
  • Excessive sweating
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Increased breast or testicle size
  • Milky discharge from the nipples in females
  • Changes in sex drive
  • Hair loss

Some of the adverse effects of doxepin can be more serious. Call your doctor right away or seek emergency medical help if you experience the following symptoms:

  • A fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat
  • Signs of allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching, hives
  • Trouble breathing or swallowing
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes
  • Unusual bleeding or bruising

Doxepin Overdose: In case of an overdose of doxepin, call your doctor immediately. You can also call the local poison control center or national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Signs and symptoms of tricyclic antidepressant poisoning may include irregular heartbeat, drowsiness, enlarged pupils, fever, vomiting, muscle stiffness, confusion, agitation, difficulty concentrating, seizures, hallucinations, respiratory depression, and CNS depression (loss of consciousness or coma).
