  • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (a rare condition in which tumors in the pancreas or small intestine cause increased stomach acid production)

What is famotidine (Pepcid AC)?

Famotidine (fah moh tuh deen) is an H2 blocker or histamine H2 antagonist. It is used to treat ulcers, acid reflux, GERD, heartburn, erosive esophagitis, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is a prescription and over-the-counter medication that reduces the amount of acid produced by the stomach.

Famotidine is approved for use in children and adults. In children weighing under 40 kilograms (88 pounds), the usage and dose of famotidine must be determined by a doctor.
