What is gabapentin (Neurontin)?

Gabapentin (ga buh pen tn) is an anticonvulsant drug. It is a prescription oral medication used to treat certain types of seizures in people with epilepsy. Gabapentin is also used to relieve nerve pain after shingles (post-herpetic neuralgia). The brand name Horizant is an extended-release gabapentin tablet used to treat post-herpetic neuralgia and restless legs syndrome.

Who can take gabapentin (Neurontin)?

Gabapentin can be prescribed to adults and children 3 years of age and older for the treatment of epilepsy.
