What is Levoxyl?

Levoxyl (lee vok suhl) belongs to a class of medications called hormone replacement agents, thyroid supplements, or endocrine metabolic agents. It is an oral prescription medicine that is used to replace T4 thyroid hormone when the body does not make enough (this condition is called hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid). Thyroid hormones are necessary for many critical body functions, including regulation of heart rate, body temperature, metabolism, and more.

There may be other uses of Levoxyl—your healthcare provider or pharmacist can give you more information.

Who can take Levoxyl?

Levoxyl can be prescribed to adults and children, including infants.
