How To Use Lidocaine Prilocaine

Apply a thick layer of lidocaine prilocaine cream and place an occlusive dressing over it to help with the absorption of the medicine. The medicine needs to stay in place for 1-2 hours on intact skin for it to reach peak blood levels and provide adequate analgesia (pain control). Small children may need a secondary protective covering to prevent them from touching the medicine and putting it in their eyes, nose, ears, or mouth.

This medication is for external use only. Call your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical care in case of accidental ingestion.

Lidocaine prilocaine should not be applied to inflamed skin, open wounds, or on or near the eyes, nose, mouth, or ears.

Missed dose: Lidocaine prilocaine is used as needed to provide dermal analgesia.

Storage: Store lidocaine prilocaine topical cream at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light. Keep the container tightly closed. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused lidocaine prilocaine should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to it. Do not throw lidocaine prilocaine in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded lidocaine prilocaine is through a drug take-back program.
