Memantine Drug Class

Memantine (meh muhm tine) belongs to a group of medications called NMDA receptor antagonists. It works by blocking N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors in the brain. NMDA is a certain natural substance involved in a broad range of brain functions.

Memantine Age Range

Memantine is approved for use in adults. This medication is not indicated in children. The safety and efficacy of memantine have not been established in pediatric patients.
