Memantine Side Effects
Possible side effects of memantine are listed below. Tell your doctor if these side effects are severe or if they do not go away in a few days.
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Confusion
- Depression
- Aggression
- Sleepiness
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation
- Weight gain
- Cough
- Pain, especially back pain
Some of the possible side effects of memantine can be more serious. Call your healthcare professional right away or seek emergency medical help if you experience any of the following signs and symptoms while on memantine:
- Difficulty breathing or other signs of allergic reactions
- Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not there)

Memantine Overdose: In case of an accidental or intentional overdose of memantine, call your doctor immediately. You can also call the local poison control center or national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Signs and symptoms of a memantine overdose may include slow movements, unsteadiness, restlessness, agitation, severe confusion, dizziness, drowsiness, vomiting, slowed heartbeat, weakness, lack of energy, vision changes, spinning sensation, hallucinations, and loss of consciousness.
