How To Use Microgestin Fe

Depending on which branded generic your doctor prescribes, your medication may have a different appearance and slightly different instructions. Please take the medication as per your doctor’s instructions. A Patient Information Leaflet for the product will be given with each prescription and refill. Read this sheet carefully each time. The sheet may change frequently.

You should take the first tablet in the pack on the first Sunday after the start of your period or on the first day of your period. You can also start taking this medication on the first day of your period if it falls on a Sunday.

If you are using a product that contains 28 tablets, take an inactive or reminder pill once a day for 7 consecutive days following the last active or hormonal pill unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. If you are using a product that contains 21 tablets, do not consume any tablets for 7 days unless your doctor instructs you otherwise.

You should have your menstrual period during the fourth week of the cycle. Whether or not you have your period, start a new pack the next day once you've finished the final inactive tablet in the pack, or have gone 7 days without taking an active tablet. Tell your doctor if you don't get your period.

When you initially start taking this medication, you may need to use a backup method for birth control, such as condoms. You should completely follow your healthcare provider's instructions.

Take this medicine by mouth, usually once daily, with or without food. To reduce nausea, it may be taken with food or milk. Take this medicine at the same time each day and in the order directed on the package.

Do not take more or less Microgestin Fe or take it more or less frequently than prescribed. Missing pills, starting a new pack late or taking your pill at a different time of the day than normal all increase your risk of becoming pregnant.

If you are sick with severe vomiting or diarrhea, Microgestin Fe may not work as well to prevent pregnancy. Use back-up birth control like condoms until you check with your doctor.

Do not stop taking microgestin Fe even if you experience spotting while on the usual regimen of one tablet per day.

Keep in mind that oral contraceptives work only as long as they are taken on a regular basis. Do not stop taking microgestin Fe without talking to your healthcare professional.

Missed dose: You should call your doctor or check the package insert about what to do if you miss a microgestin Fe dose. If you miss one or more doses of an oral contraceptive, there are specific instructions to follow that come with every brand. Keep taking your pills as prescribed and use a backup method of birth control till you get your answers. The probability of ovulation rises with each successive day that scheduled tablets are missed.

Storage: Store microgestin Fe at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) in the packet it came in, away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Keep all medications out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Throw away any expired or unused microgestin Fe. Do not flush the medicine down the toilet. The best way to dispose of medicines is through your local waste disposal company or a medication take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal
