Mometasone furoate (moe-met-ah-sone foo-roh-ayt) belongs to a group of medications called corticosteroids or glucocorticoids, which are anti-inflammatory agents.

Mometasone Furoate (Nasonex) Age Range

Mometasone furoate is approved for use in adults and children as follows: 

  • This medication is available over-the-counter for use in adults and children 2 years of age and older for the treatment of nasal symptoms of allergic rhinitis (hay fever). 
  • It is available by prescription for use by adults and children 12 years of age and older for prophylaxis (prevention) of nasal symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis. 
  • Mometasone furoate is available by prescription for adults over the age of 18 years for the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps.
