What is Norvasc (amlodipine)?

Norvasc (naw vask) is a calcium channel blocker that works to dilate blood vessels, thus, reducing blood pressure. It is a prescription oral medication used to treat high blood pressure, angina (chest pain), and other heart conditions.

There may be other uses of Norvasc—your pharmacist or physician can give you further information.

Who can take Norvasc (amlodipine)?

Norvasc can be prescribed to adults and children aged 6 and above. Norvasc is not indicated for use in children under the age of 6. Adults over the age of 65 should talk to their doctor about whether a lower starting dose of Norvasc is appropriate.
