Pharmacist Tips

Norvasc (amlodipine) tips from pharmacists

  • Norvasc can cause dizziness when you first start taking it. Usually, the body adjusts, and this symptom goes away. However, if you continue to experience dizziness or it worsens, talk to your prescribing physician or pharmacist.

  • It takes roughly one week for the full effect of Norvasc (amlodipine) to develop. If you are tracking your blood pressure numbers at home, let your healthcare provider know if you don’t see an improvement after this time.

  • Contact your doctor if you develop swelling in the legs, ankles, feet, arms, or hands. This side effect of Norvasc tends to be worse in people with kidney disease and congestive heart failure (these conditions make it hard for the body to get rid of excess fluids).

  • If you are being treated for high cholesterol with Zocor (simvastatin), let your doctor know. Norvasc can make more simvastatin available in the body, so your dose of Zocor may need to be lowered.
