What are Norvasc (amlodipine) side effects?
Seek emergency medical care immediately if you experience the following symptoms - they can be signs of an allergic reaction to amlodipine (Norvasc): hives, shortness of breath, swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat.
When you first start taking Norvasc, in very rare cases, your angina may worsen, or you may have a heart attack. Please seek emergency medical care if you experience chest pain, chest pressure, nausea, sweating, pain that radiates to the neck and jaw.
The most common side effects of Norvasc include:
Swelling
Dizziness
Flushing
Increased heart rate
These Norvasc side effects usually get better once your body gets used to the drug. However, if the side effects worsen or you continue to experience them, contact your prescribing physician.
Some side effects of Norvasc are more serious and require medical attention. You should inform your doctor without delay if you experience the following side effects on amlodipine (Norvasc):
Swelling of the ankles or feet
Difficulty breathing
Racing or pounding heartbeat
Feeling severe lightheadedness
The above list may not include all the potential side effects of Norvasc. Speak to your healthcare provider if you have severe side effects or the side effects do not go away after a while. You can also report unusual Norvasc side effects to the Food and Drug Administration at 1-800-FDA-1088.
Norvasc Overdose: Taking too many tablets of Norvasc can cause your blood pressure to drop to dangerously low levels. You may feel lightheaded, dizzy, faint, or weak. If the blood pressure drop is severe enough, a Norvasc overdose can be potentially fatal. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible if you’ve taken extra doses of Norvasc. NOTE: Norvasc is a prescription drug to be used only by you—never share your Norvasc with others or take tablets from someone else’s Norvasc prescription.
