What is phenobarbital?
Phenobarbital (fee noe bar bi tal) belongs to a family of drugs called barbiturates (antiepileptic drugs) that are used to control seizures. Phenobarbital is a sedative hypnotic and may also be used to relieve anxiety and induce sleep. Another use of phenobarbital is to prevent withdrawal symptoms in people with an addiction to other barbiturate drugs.
