Promethazine-Codeine Side Effects
Possible side effects of promethazine with codeine are listed below. Call your doctor for medical advice if they are severe or persist after a few days.
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Trouble concentrating
- Reduced mental alertness
- Headache
- Dry mouth
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Constipation
Some of the adverse effects of promethazine with codeine are more serious. Call your doctor right away or seek emergency medical help if you develop the following symptoms:
- Extreme drowsiness
- Slow or irregular breathing
- Bluish tinge to the lips, fingers, or toes
- Chest pain
- Trouble urinating
- Dizziness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, fatigue, weakness, low blood pressure
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fast heartbeat, high blood pressure, agitation, restlessness, high fever, hallucinations
- High fever, muscle stiffness, mental status changes, fast or irregular pulse, fluctuations in blood pressure, sweating
- An unusual or allergic reaction (skin rash, hives, itching, or swelling)

Promethazine-codeine Overdose: In case of an overdose of promethazine with codeine, call your doctor immediately. Overdose symptoms may include slowed, shallow, or stopped breathing, slow heartbeat, excessive drowsiness, narrowed or widened pupils, cold, clammy skin, unresponsiveness, and seizures.
