Rabeprazole (Aciphex) Uses
Rabeprazole is used to treat symptomatic GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease or daytime and nighttime heartburn) in adults and children 12 years of age and older. In adults, it is also used to treat duodenal ulcers, stomach ulcers, erosive esophagitis (damage to the esophagus from GERD), maintenance of healed erosive esophagitis, Helicobacter pylori infection, and other conditions associated with excessive stomach acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Rabeprazole (Aciphex) Mechanism of Action
Rabeprazole works by decreasing the amount of acid produced by the gastric mucosa.
Rabeprazole (Aciphex) Doses
Rabeprazole is available as 20 mg delayed release tablets.
The recommended dosage of rabeprazole is as follows:
In adults and children 12 years of age and older:
- For symptomatic relief from GERD: 20 mg once daily for up to 8 weeks.
In adults:
- For healing erosive or ulcerative GERD: 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks.
- For maintenance of healed erosive esophagitis: 20 mg once a day for up to 12 months.
- For healing of duodenal and gastric ulcers: 20 mg once daily for up to 4 weeks.
- For eradication of H. pylori: Combination therapy of 20 mg rabeprazole with 1,000 mg amoxicillin and 500 mg clarithromycin for 7 days.
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: 60 mg once daily (doses of 100 mg once daily and 60 mg twice daily can be used for up to 1 year).
