Before applying silver sulfadiazine, clean the area and remove any burned or dead skin. Wear disposable sterile gloves when applying the medicine. Keep the wounds covered with 1/16th inch thickness of cream at all times. Reapply the cream on any area where the cream gets rubbed off.

Do not apply silver sulfadiazine inside your eyes, nose, or mouth. Do not swallow this medicine. Avoid placing any bandages or dressings on the treated area unless your doctor tells you to. Also, avoid using cosmetics or lotions on the treated skin unless advised by your doctor.

Do not stop silver sulfadiazine therapy until your doctor tells you. Your wounds must be completely healed before stopping treatment with this antimicrobial drug. Gently remove any burned or dead skin every day from the wound. Call your doctor if you develop new or worsening signs of infection.

Missed dose: If you miss a dose of silver sulfadiazine, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and apply the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused silver sulfadiazine should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them.
