Singulair (montelukast) tips from pharmacists
People with the inherited disorder called phenylketonuria should not use the chewable tablets of Singulair as they contain aspartame which forms phenylalanine.Orthostatic hypotension is characterized as a drop in blood pressure when you stand up from sitting or laying down. Please take time when changing position and hold on to the side of the bed or part of the chair in order to avoid falls and injuries.
Keep a rescue inhaler on hand to treat acute asthma attacks. Singulair will not help immediately if you’re having trouble breathing.
Singulair granules should be placed directly in the mouth or mixed with applesauce, rice, ice cream, or carrots (they have not been studied for safety and efficacy with other foods). You should use the food and Singulair granules mixture within 15 minutes. Do not store it for later use.
Singulair works long-term to control your asthma and allergy symptoms. Do not stop taking the medication even if you feel better. Talk to your prescribing physician before stopping Singulair.
