Zonisamide (Zonegran) Drug Class
Zonisamide (zoh-nih-sah-mide) is an anticonvulsant (antiepileptic medication). It belongs to a group of medicines that are chemically classified as sulfa drugs or sulfonamides.
Zonisamide (Zonegran) Age Range
Zonisamide is approved for use in adult patients and pediatric patients 16 years of age and older. The safety and efficacy of this medicine have not been established in children younger than 16 years. Studies have shown that children under the age of 16 are at a higher risk of serious side effects of zonisamide such as oligohydrosis (reduced sweating) and hyperthermia (elevated body temperature).
