How To Use Sodium Fluoride (Prevident)
Sodium fluoride should be used as per the prescription label or package directions. Sodium fluoride solution can be taken directly from the bottle or mixed in fruit juice, cereal, or other foods.
Note that while using fluorine compounds strengthens teeth, it is not a substitute for good oral hygiene. You should brush your teeth twice a day, eat a healthy diet, limit sugary foods and snacks, and get regular dental checkups to maintain healthy tooth enamel.
Missed dose: If you miss a dose or application of sodium fluoride, take it or apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose or application, skip the missed one and go back to your regular dosing or application schedule. Do not take a double dose or apply extra sodium fluoride to make up for a missed dose or application.
Storage: Store sodium fluoride at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Unused medicine: Unused sodium fluoride should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw sodium fluoride in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded sodium fluoride is through a drug take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal.
